WEBB BRIDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL - Business and Computer Science - 23+ years as an educator (6th year teaching Grades 6, 7, and 8 at Webb Bridge Middle School) - Connections Chair - FBLA Advisor - Broadcast Co-Advisor - TAG Eligibility Team -- Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert
EDUCATION This year begins my 23rd year of teaching. I am a graduate of Northeastern University, Boston, MA (Ed.D.). My past education also includes degrees from Community College of Allegheny County, Pittsburgh, PA (A.S.) and Robert Morris University, Pittsburgh, PA (B.S.B.A./Education and M.S. Business Education). When earning my doctorate degree, my focus of study and subsequent dissertation addressed the topic of student learning in an online environment ("Assessing Middle School Participation in Online vs. Face-to-Face Environments").
PREVIOUS TEACHING POSITIONS Prior to coming to Fulton County Schools (Webb Bridge Middle School), I held teaching positions in my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (as both a post-secondary and high school computer and business teacher) and in Dedham, Massachusetts (middle school computer teacher). In addition, for three years at Dedham Public Schools I served as the district's Technology Integrator, K-12.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY Students learn best in an active learning environment. Actively constructing knowledge, rather than passively receiving knowledge, is the essence to learning. As an educator I believe it is not only how I teach but the manner in which I interact with my students that leads to student achievement. Helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally is of extreme importance to me. I hold high expectations for their achievement, and they in turn respond by striving to do their best. Students need a teacher to be precise, problem-solving, and connected to student interests. I strive to meet the needs of my students daily and to seek opportunities for students to actively contribute to their learning and excel in the classroom.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE ... My husband and I have two children and four grandchildren. Our son and his family live in Denver, Colorado, and our daughter and her family live in the Atlanta area. When time permits I enjoy traveling with my husband, connecting with family and friends, learning new computer concepts, and baking!
